Specialty Facials

Do you want youthful, radiant skin? A combination of aging, sun exposure, and acne scars can result in dry, damaged skin making you look older than you are. Luckily, you have options to repair your skin.

What is a Facial?

Facials are procedures which can help a person look younger. Your aesthetician will begin by cleansing your face to remove any makeup or dirt. Using a brightly magnified lamp, your aesthetician evaluates your skin type to determine which products to use. Many facials include steam to release any blackheads or whiteheads followed by exfoliation to remove dead skin.

Your aesthetician will then massage your face to relax you and stimulate your facial muscles. This is then followed by a facial mask which is chosen to offer the most aesthetic benefit to your individual needs. A final application of toner, serums, moisturizer and sunscreen are added before you are finished.

Which Facial is Right for Me?

Here at Lake Nona Ophthalmology, we offer a variety of facial treatments for a variety of different reasons. One of the most common things patients ask when considering a facial is, “What exactly does a facial do?” Simply put, a facial cleans, exfoliates, and nourishes to promote clear, well-hydrated skin.

Each of our facials are uniquely customized to each patient’s skin type to focus on your specific conditions and concerns – such as acne prone skin, anti-aging, deep pore cleansing, detoxification, dehydration and hyperpigmentation.

Skin type is one of the main determining factors for a facial. These include: normal, oily, dry, and sensitive. Every skin type has specific needs that should not only be taken into consideration when buying a cleanser or moisturizer, but also when getting a facial.

Below are a few different skin types and what we recommend to help.

Normal or Dry Skin Type

Because dry skin lacks natural lipids or oils, it leaves your skin prone to dehydration. The lack of water in the skin causes your natural exfoliation process to slow down. Facials that include gentle exfoliation and enzymes target your dry, flakey skin and leave a fresh, smooth surface. Facials that include a mask are also helpful because they are able to penetrate a hydrating product into the skin.

Normal or Oily Skin Type

With oily skin, your face produces more oil than it needs. The oil acts as a magnet to skin cells, make up, and dirt, resulting in clogged pores. For this skin type, your facial should include a chemical exfoliant like glycolic acid or salicylic acid. The exfoliant will penetrate the pore, removing dirt and oil. Your esthetician will also perform extractions to remove deep set in debris like those pesky blackheads!

Combination Skin Type

Combination skin includes some areas that are oily and some areas that are dry. Facials on this skin type may include the areas being treated separately. Enzyme and chemical exfoliants all work for this skin type. Extractions may also be necessary when removing blackheads from the T-zone.

Sensitive Skin Type

When it comes to sensitive skin, it is important to choose a product that won’t irritate the skin. Facials that use enzymes for exfoliation tend to work best because they do not cause irritation. We recommend avoiding products with excess fragrances in them for those with sensitive skin.
