Maybe this is the year you try Botox or Juvederm, treat yourself to a chemical peel or HydraFacial, or get rid of that fading tattoo. But when exactly is the ideal time to have aesthetic treatments done? And how long before a big family or social event should you receive treatment?
Whether you’re a regular at your med spa or not, it’s important to know that many of our aesthetic treatments and injectable procedures require some downtime before they take full effect.
HydraFacial:
If you’re looking for a ‘red carpet’ treatment that on the day of your big event, look no further. Our HydraFacial treatments will provide you with a long-lasting radiant and youthful glow to amplify your beauty and instill you with confidence, with zero downtime.
HydraFacial was created to address all skincare needs including:

If you’re squeezed for time, you can rest easy knowing that our “Hydra-derm” (aka HydraFacial) minimizes inflammation and post-treatment breakouts due to deep cleaning of the pores. Plus, you can have a beautiful makeup application applied right after the treatment.

You might think that getting a facial a day or two before a big holiday event is a great idea. However, that could be a recipe for walking into your in-laws with blotchy, irritated skin. Facial treatments open up your pores which can trigger acne and redness and often make your skin look worse before it looks better.
The best time to get a facial is at least one week before you want your skin at its best. This will allow any residual blotchiness to fade and be replaced with a radiant, youthful glow.
You should avoid getting a wax and a facial on the same day. When you wax, you expose a fresh layer of skin cells, and most facials exfoliate deeply into the skin, so irritation can result by combining the two. Have your wax one day, and then come back another day for your facial.
Chemical Peels:
A chemical peel removes the outer layers of skin on your face, to rejuvenate older and damaged skin cells. Some peels can cause redness or sunburn-like reactions after the procedure followed by scaling that typically resolves within three to seven days. If you’re pressed for time, your medical aesthetician may be able to perform a milder version of a peel, like an exfoliator, as part of a facial.
Botox and injectables:
Botox and fillers are popular and effective injectables that enhance your appearance and make you look your best for any occasion. If you’re planning on getting Botox, you want to give yourself at least two weeks before your holiday event to allow all redness, bruising or swelling to fade and for the results to show up in time for the event.
For Juvéderm injectables, two to three weeks downtime is recommended, and if you’re receiving Kybella, a non-surgical injectable used to treat the double chin, you’ll need one to three months before the seeing the full effects of the treatment.
Microblading:
Microblading is an innovative and semi-permanent procedure where pigment is inserted into the superficial layers of the skin to create more natural, fuller-looking, and plush eyebrows.
After your treatment, you can expect some redness and swelling, and the hue of the pigment may seem darker until the area fully heals. As your eyebrows heal, you may experience some dryness or minor scabbing. To ensure your brows look their best by your big day, book your appointment six to eight weeks before.
Picosure laser treatment:
The PicoSure laser mobilizes your body’s natural skin cell revitalization processes to provide you with healthier, younger-looking skin. The procedure is a proven way to remove those fading or no-longer-wanted tattoos. PicoSure treatments lighten undesirable pigments and promote the production of fresh collagen and elastin all the while avoiding the discomfort and recovery time of other laser treatments.
However, you may experience some bruising one to three days after treatment, as well as blisters (that may scab), and mild skin discoloration. Your medical aesthetician may place a bandage around the area to help it recover. It typically takes scabs between ten days to two weeks to fully heal.
Recovery times depend on each patient’s medical history and the reason for treatment. You may need repeat treatment for certain pigmented lesions or tattoos. Typical treatment intervals are two to six weeks for pigmented lesions and six to eight weeks for tattoo removal.
