WrinklesThe prevention of wrinkles has become a billion dollar industry in the United States alone. Preventative products, wrinkle creams, facial fillers – we do anything to prolong the signs of aging here in Orlando and throughout the country. So why do we get wrinkles and are they actually avoidable?

Unfortunately, wrinkles are a normal, natural part of aging. Wrinkles develop over the years with the use of our facial muscles, through daily movements like smiling and frowning. Deeper wrinkles are developed when we lose volume in our face, which also happens naturally as we age.

So, how can we halt, slow, or even reverse the development of these lines? In addition to generally healthy principles that we discuss below, Botox, Facial Fillers, and Pelleve may just do the trick!  Botox is a purified protein that relaxes facial muscles (such as those that cause frown lines) temporarily up to 3 months.  For deeper wrinkles that occur due to loss of facial volume, facial fillers, such as Juvederm, can restore volume, and soften those deep lines.  Lastly, radiofrequency techniques, such as Pelleve, increase collagen formation to provide additional rejuvenation and wrinkle reduction.

In addition to the three aesthetic procedures, it is also important to implement measures of good health:

  • Avoid excessive sun exposure. Sun exposure is the number one cause of wrinkles. When going outside, it is important to protect your skin by wearing sunscreen.
  • Don’t smoke. Cigarette smoke causes the skin to age faster by releasing an enzyme that breaks down the natural collagen and elastin – two components that help keep yours skin wrinkle-free.
  • Sleep properly. It’s important to get an adequate amount of sleep. When you don’t get enough sleep, your body produces a hormone called cortisol that breaks down skin cells. Believe it or not, another factor is the position in which you sleep. Yes, even the way you sleep can increase wrinkles on your cheeks, chin and brows. Your best bet to reduce wrinkle formation overnight? Sleep on your back.
  • Eat healthy. The foods you put in your body can help prevent the development of wrinkles. Salmon, a great source of omega-3, helps nourish the skin and keep it plump. Fruits and vegetables, with their antioxidants, fight damage caused by free radicals.

Using multiple modalities such as injectables and Pelleve along with living a healthy lifestyle can go along way to halt the aging process!
