Plump and Smooth Microneedling Treatment

Microneedling (also known as Collagen Induction Therapy) is a minimally invasive treatment where an FDA-approved device with very small dermal needles is used to cause microscopic injuries to the superficial layers of the skin. This treatment triggers the skin’s natural healing process to promote collagen production which helps to improve the appearance of aging or damaged skin.

At Lake Nona Ophthalmology, we use the innovative microneedling tool SkinPen®, an FDA-approved device only available to aesthetics professionals in a medical office to perform this treatment. We love microneedling treatments because it is safe for all skin types, the recovery period lasts one to two days, and there is little to no discomfort during the treatment!

What Are the Benefits of Microneedling?

What’s It Like to Have a Microneedling Treatment?

Depending on the area treated, the type of skin condition, and your desired results, the actual SkinPen® treatment can take about 30 minutes. At Lake Nona Ophthalmology, your comfort is important to us, so prior to your microneedling appointment our aesthetic provider will cleanse your skin and apply a topical numbing cream for 15-20 minutes. The total process can take up to one hour.

After your treatment, the skin may display some immediate redness. In some cases, patients do not become red until the effects of the numbing cream completely wear off anywhere from one to two hours after the initial treatment. This redness is a good thing and will normally subside in 24-72 hrs.

We normally recommend an initial treatment plan of three sessions for most patients, however, the number of sessions needed varies depending on the severity of the concerns we are trying to correct, patient age, and patient goals. Each treatment is scheduled about four to six weeks apart to achieve optimal outcomes.
