What is Kybella®?
Kybella® is the first and only FDA approved injectable drug that contours and improves the appearance of submental fullness.
Kybella® is a formulation of deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat, reducing the appearance of a double chin. Before Kybella® was created, the only way to remove fat from under the chin was through a procedure called liposculpture.
What to Expect With Kybella® Treatment
You and Dr. Patel will design a treatment plan tailored to help you improve your chin profile. During your treatment sessions, Dr. Patel will administer Kybella® into the fat under your chin using tiny injections.
Many patients experience visible results in two to four treatment sessions. Up to six treatment sessions may be administered, spaced no less than one month apart. In all, the treatment can take four to six months.
The number of injections and the number of treatments should be tailored to the individual patient’s submental fat distribution and treatment goals. When injected into subcutaneous fat, Kybella® causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat.
